Without the non-profit, diversity has no chance in the escort

Actually, it should be the easiest thing in the world: people play a game with people. The ESPORT has the potential of absolute equality with its low barrier. With matching equipment, almost everyone can get in. But instead of enjoying the commonality of divided passion, deep trenches are taken up.

Who does not start as an obvious white boy or heterosexual man, must expect attacks to the professional career within public, chats and comment columns. The ESPORT is an environment in which sexist infants to women and racist comments are the rule. We are far from experiencing equal (entry) conditions.

Heteronormative thinking patterns are the standard within ESPORT relevant games. The consequences are manifold: from rejection and exclusion over false speeches to toxic chats, shitstorms and attacks. Through such expected reactions, sponsoring also remains often.

Clear that the escort for a coming out of people of the LGBTIQA + spectrum does not sound just the best idea. Especially in the field of Efootball, the pattern of real football seems to be more likely to solidify. Homosexuality is taboo.

Efforts for more diversity are correct and important

This leads to people within their passion either not that they are that they are or therefore not in the ESPORT. Coming outs happen, similar to real sport, mostly at the height of success or after the career.

There are good approaches in Germany as the Mentoring program of the ESBD, the ESPORT Player Foundation and further efforts, including from the Association of the German Games Industry (Game). Efforts set out in the Esport Talk Esport Talk to homosexuality and diversity in the ESPORT.

But these always depend on the will of some organizations, sponsors or volunteers. In order to obtain actual equality, it needs more than a few good initiatives.

Homo and transfureness - still a societal problem

Because homo and transfureness are a societal problem with structural and institutional roots. Without the charitable nature of the eSport, not only in Germany, this problem remains the exact lifestyle of a person from the LGBTIQA + spectrum. And unfortunately, that is still characterized by discrimination.

Only since 1994 is paragraph 175, which cancel homosexual actions between adult men. Only since 2016, homosexual couples are officially entitled to practice the guardianship for children and adolescents together as foster parents. Marriage for everyone was introduced on October 1, 2017.

With "Divers" since 18 December 2018 in addition to male and feminine although a third option in identity card is enabled - but only for intersexexual people. Non-binary and gender fluids people are excluded.

A bill to strengthen the sexual self-determination was rejected only in the spring of 2021. In order to realize name change and personnel adjustments, transgender and transsexual persons must continue to be the path of the Transsexual Act certified by the UN as a human rights violation. There is external determination instead of self-determination.

Article 3 of the Basic Law still clings the sexual identity

Missing acceptance in the environment and in bureaucracy, a high suicide rate under trans adolescents and adults is true as a study by the American Academy of Pedriatrics 2018 confirmed. 50.8 percent under trans boys and 41.8 percent under Trans Girls at the age of 11-19 had already undertaken one or more suicide attempts.

Who wants to volunteer in another toxic environment, if not the real for a solid, loving growing up?

Article 3 of the Basic Law on equal rights of all people still clings the sexual identity. We are talking about about 10 percent of the population, which will be deprived of the basis for discrimination. But Hey, after all, homosexual people can donate blood since the end of 2021.

A reflection

The ESPORT is an image of our social development, as Marius Lauer also confirms in the Esport Talk Esport Talk. Why should it run differently in the escort with the exclusion, if we have not arrived in society where we actually have to go there. The slow entire development reflects your descendant on the ESPORT.

What is not legally anchored, also causes problems at eSportlich level.

Even if the gaming scene is actually as much as the entire world's population, equal rights for queer persons is still not completed in Germany. But, and that's the good news, we approach ourselves.

Representation and attention, such as it creates the Starcraft 2 player Sasha 'Scarlett' Hostyn for night-out generations are important. Therefore, isolated initiatives for effort for more diversity and coming outs are extremely significant. Visibility creates tremendous motivation. But without the big bang, it is not.

6 Types of Grants for Nonprofits (and how to find them)

This is exactly where the charity comes into play. There are currently no organized amateur escort in Germany. On the big stages, it creates who is lucrative for companies and sponsors.

And that is among the current conditions exactly those who need to expect only a little counterwind on the way to the professional. So mainly boys and men without LGBTIQA + background.

Community as an important pillar to more diversity in the escort

The non-recognition of the eSport as an "official" sport prevents the expansion of an amateur area, as well as the mayor of the city of Cologne, Henriette Reker, wrote in her guest contribution for Esport Talk Esport. We need this area for more diversity in the escort.

It lacks structures to explicitly promote individual groups within a club. It takes a social substructure. With the non-profit of the eSport, not only financial inequalities could be avoided while getting started, but also created Safe spaces for people of the LGBTIQA + spectrum.

Similar to the urban facilities for queer young people, there would be a place where they could grow in the community with trained contact persons. Any failure in education could be compensated by pedagogical accompaniment and education within the Community. A now often applied social pedagogical model in schools and clubs.

Access to the ESPORT can be broader through financial independence within urban / government promotion and financial relief. More clubs could offer an escort division without losing their beneficiary club position. The diversity could benefit from it.

Currently, we can only react to current events in the ESPORT and improve acute, individual circumstances for affected. With tournaments for women and queer people increase the visibility and sow motivation. Through individual initiatives and mentor programs make the introduction for some easier.

But only with far-reaching actions in the course of non-profit within a total society change, we will be able to fight the actual causes of unequal treatment.
